EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANT MOTOR CYCLE(RT49)
The Hong Kong Fire Services Department (FSD) was established in 1868 to provide fire and ambulance services to the public. In 1982, HKFD started to trial the use of Ambulance Aid Motorcycles (AAMCs). Initially, only two AAMCs were stationed at Morrison Hill Ambulance Depot, and then seven additional AAMCs were procured in 1987 for a full-scale trial, which were stationed at Shatin, Lei Muk Shue, Cheung Sha Wan, Ma Tau Chung and Morrison Hill ambulance depots, and one was stationed at the Sheung Wan Fire Station. The EMA motorcycles are responsible for providing emergency ambulance service and are equipped with paramedic equipment including drugs and injections, etc. The EMA motorcycles are particularly suitable for use in situations where ambulances are unable to arrive at the scene at the time of call due to traffic congestion, narrow road surface or obstruction for various reasons. With a speed of up to 195 kilometres per hour, the EMA motorcycle can arrive at the scene of an incident in the first instance to stabilise the condition of the patient and provide comprehensive pre-hospital paramedic services. To enhance the quality of paramedic ambulance service, EMA motorcycles have been in full operation since 2000, and there will be a total of 36 EMA motorcycles in the Ambulance Command by 2021.
