HONG KONG LIGHT BUS
In the 1950s and 1960s, a 9-passenger white van was popular in Hong Kong and was used in the New Territories. In 1967, the government allowed minibuses to enter the city and they became more and more popular, with the number of white buses increasing. Since then, 14-seater has been another name for minibuses. Finally, in 1970, the government introduced a policy of legalising white-plate vehicles, which were licensed by the government to travel throughout Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories, i.e. the red minibuses. The limit of 4350 minibuses was also set then and has remained unchanged to this day.
