HOME OF HOUSING ESTATES IN THE 1980S(RT53)
Hong Kong's economy took off in the 1970s, and many public housing families were already well-off. Modern household appliances, such as refrigerators, television sets, telephones, rice cookers and other practical items, began to enter people's lives. Furniture that was popular at that time was mostly dark-coloured wooden furniture, such as wooden comforters and cabinets, because of the nature of wood, which made people feel cool and refreshed, and did not make them feel hot and sticky when sitting on a wooden comforter in the hot weather. A common form of entertainment in housing estates was "playing mahjong". As the space in the flats was relatively small at that time, residents chose to play games and entertainment in the communal areas of the estates, making it easy for them to get acquainted with each other and giving them a human touch.
